i turned down shakespeare for frisbee

tuesday, august 2:

another beautiful day in oxford. forecast high: 75 ... the highest all week. got up and went to breakfast ... same as always. in political economy we talked about prime minister major's refusal to decide on the uk joining the euro. not the most exciting stuff. then during the break ... the tuck shop (what else) ... and on to class number 2. lots of graphs today. not fun.

after class, time for lunch ... chicken and potatoes. not too bad. then we went out on the lawn for some croquet and general lounging around. i went downtown to pick up a pair of black socks (i left mine at home) for going to the horse races tomorrow. by the time i got back it was time for the unl-duke soccer game.

unl has the largest study abroad program in oxford, and every year we play soccer against one or two schools. this year, duke challenged us to a game. they only have about 25 people in their program (compared to our 77), and when almost all of us went out to play (or support) our nebraska at oxford soccer team, it must've been quite intimidating for the blue devils. as it turned out, they didn't have a great turnout for the game and we had to give some of our players to them. there was a large crowd, all nebraska students, to watch as nebraska ran to a 4-1 victory. go big red!

i didn't get to see the end of the game because i left at halftime to go play frisbee with the oxford team, OW! i hadn't played with the actual oxford team before, and they were all really good! i wasn't the worst person but i definitely wasn't the best either. good times though ... playing with people lots better than you really helps you improve. and i met so many people ... it was awesome. after the practice, though, i went through about 10 minutes of panic thinking i had lost my phone somewhere. as it turns out, i had put it in the cell phone pocket on my backpack strap (but it was the first time i'd used the backpack and had forgotten about the strap). when i gave up looking for it and put the bag on, a light bulb went off in my head. i was very relieved.

since i missed dinner to play frisbee, i stopped by a bakery on the way back and picked up 2 baguettes (half price after 1830). grilled ham and cheese and tomato and mozzarella baguettes. scrumptious. i got back and most everyone was still at macbeth (another opportunity forgone for frisbee), so i went up to my room and studied until they got back btw 2200 and 2230. then we went to the purple turtle and danced the night away (until 0030). then it was into the shower and into bed. ready for the races tomorrow!

fristastically,
grant
